Oak Pond Sponsors Forever Friends!

Happy New Years Eve!  Oak Pond Creations is sponsoring Forever Friends and today starts a new Challenge.  The winner of this challenge will receive three images from the Oak Pond shop on Etsy.  The wonderful designers at Forever friends have kindly asked me to join in as a guest designer and I happen to have the perfect occasion for a new card.   I'm using one of my new images "King of Courage"  and I designed this card for my dad who turns 75 in a few days.   Stop over at Forever Friends, check out the challenge rules (this week it's Anything Goes) and join in the fun!  I look forward to seeing your designs and projects.  Hugs, Happy Crafting and Happy New Year!

Digital Image:  Oak Pond Creation's "King of Courage"
Papers:  DCWV designer paper and I printed my image on the smooth side of Southworth Linen 65lb card stock.
When coloring with Prismas, it gives a canvas look to your finished image without pushing your pencils over a bumpy texture.
Tools/Embellishments:  Hemp Twine, Prisma pencils, Martha Stewart Punch

Again, thank you to the amazing Forever Friends Challenge Design team.  You are one talented group of individuals.  Thank you for the Design invite this month and I will wear my badge with pride.
Hugs to you <3-Kim

Hello my crafty friends.  I'd like to offer you a chance to earn a free digital stamp from my Etsy shop.  In October during breast cancer awareness month I sketched a digital stamp called battle gear.  All 2012 profits from this stamp are going to Link Up for Pink's Relay for Life page.  In an attempt to raise money for this charity, from now until December 31, I will send you a free stamp if you complete three steps:

2. Become a follower on the Oak Pond Creations facebook page
3. e-mail me at khecker@sccoast.net, let me know you've completed the three steps and give me your choice of one digital stamp you'd like to have from my Etsy Shop and I will e-mail your new digi!

Thank you so much, hugs and Happy Crafting! <3-Kim

New Digi and a New Shop Section!

Happy December!  I hope this month finds you Joyous and Merry.  I wanted to introduce my new image and tell you about a new section in my Etsy store.  I've added a Discount Digi section so be sure to check it out.  I also wanted to let you know that I've added more security to my blog.  Recently, I have had to monitor and delete spam comments and links at an alarming rate so I have added some security features that may require you to use word verification.  I'm sorry to my loyal commenters :(  Please keep the comments coming.  They inspire me so much.  I hope you enjoy my new digi!  I don't know about you but I can ALWAYS use a little brave.

Tutorial "The Book of Treasure"

This is my Pocket Page Treasure Book.  This book contains memories and love from my entire family for my dad who is having an extended stay in the hospital. Our family is scattered all over the United States but thanks to e-mail, Facebook and mobile phones they were able to come together and send me writings and pictures to place in this book in a matter of a couple of days.
My family ROCKS!  Love you guys <3
If you have any questions about the following tutorial, please contact me.
Enjoy!

Supplies:
*2 pieces of 5X7 inch cardboard or chipboard for front and back cover
*2 pieces of 6X8 inch designer paper to wrap the outside of each cover
*2 pieces of 4 ¾ X 6 ¾ to finish the inside of each cover
*10X8 ½ inch paper for book pages
*4 ½ X 7 inch paper for inserts (If desired)
*3 Clip Rings
*Crop-o-Dile
*Ribbons/Embellishments
*Various Stamps and ink
*Scoring board
*Bone folder
*Strong adhesive
*¼ inch Eyelets and a ¼ inch eyelet setting tool with hammer (Crop-a-Dile was too light of a tool for setting these bigger eyelets)

TO MAKE THE BOOK COVERS
Wrap the OUTSIDE of your covers with 6X8inch designer paper. DO NOT FINISH THE INSIDE OF THE COVERS YET!
Punch a hole in the front of the cover where you want your closure button/embellishment to be.
Thread your button/closure from the OUTSIDE of the front cover. Gently pull the button snug against the cover. Give yourself a 5 or 6 inch tail of thread/ribbon and adhere this to the unfinished inside of the book cover.
Use strong adhesive and tack a piece of 4 ¾ X 6 ¾ designer paper to the inside front cover. (this hides your work and anchors your front closure button)

(SHOWING OUTSIDE OF FRONT COVER WITH BUTTON)

For the back cover punch a hole just big enough to thread a piece of ribbon or twine. Thread your ribbon or twine from the OUTSIDE of the back cover and pull a 5 or 6 inch tail to the inside of the back cover. Adhere the tail to the unfinished inside of the back book cover. (Leave a long enough piece of ribbon/twine to wrap around your finished book once and around the closure button 3 or 4 times)
(SHOWING OUTSIDE OF BACK COVER)

Use strong adhesive and tack the 4 ¾ X 6 ¾ designer paper to the inside back cover. (this hides your work and anchors your closure ribbon/twine.) Now Punch holes in the covers for your ring binding clips. I measured the location of the holes at ¼ inch from the edge of the book covers.
(SHOWING FINISHED INSIDES OF FRONT/ BACK COVERS AND RING BINDING CLIPS)

ADD YOUR EYELETS IF DESIRED

HOW TO MAKE THE POCKET PAGES

Take 10 X 8 ½ paper and score it at 7 inches

Turn the paper clockwise and score it in half at 5 Inches

Fold the paper in half on your score line

Cut the tab corners as shown

Open up the folded paper and apply strong adhesive on the tabs shown below

Adhere the tabs to create a paper pocket as shown
(Fold up left side tape tab so it sticks to the inside of the right side of paper. Then your right side tape tab can be folded up so that it sticks to the outside of the piece you folded over)
Punch your binding ring holes on the open side of your pocket. This will keep your treasures inside the pocket :)

TO MAKE POCKET INSERTS

If you would like to make an insert use 4 ½ X 7 inch paper

Use your embellishments to decorate and make the book unique.

The work is in the decorating but it is the most exciting part for me. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and I would love to see it used in different ways. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
I made a similar album out of mini badge holders from a tutorial I found some time ago. I'm sorry to say that I am unable to locate the original tutorial to credit the crafter.
For my project I adapted the mini album techniques to create my pocket notebook. This is a very easy project to create and takes very little time however, decorating and journaling took many days. If you have any questions regarding this project please e-mail or send me a note.

Sassy Cheryl Challenge #139 Nothing Square About This!

Hello Bloggers!  It's been a while.  Our family has a few things going on and it has me traveling out of state.  I miss everyone *sigh*  and I will try to get back to stalking blogs and commenting in the early mornings again.  I'm so curious to see what you've all been up to :)  This week, I'm joining in at Sassy Cheryl's Challenge Blog for a super, fun challenge.  Get your supplies and circle dies and join in.  Cheryl wants us to make a round or oval creation this week.
I'm using three of Cheryl's fall images.  I've colored them up to resemble my beautiful sister Donna, my fabulous brother Bob and my goofy, quirky self.  This easel card is heading to NJ for the best dad in the world.  Our dad just spent a few days in the hospital and received some life changing news.  Cheryl's images inspired this creation, a message for dad to let him know how much we love him and that we are always here to support him.  Cheryl has some amazing deals going on so make sure you stop by Cheryl's Digi Shop for her Hurricane Sandy Relief Sale.  Help support the storm victims by grabbing a few of her fab digis, then hurry up and join this weeks challenge!  Hugs and Happy Crafting <3-Kim

Cool Challenges and a Freebie.

Happy Tuesday!  I just got back from running my first half marathon with my SIL in Virginia Beach.  It was fantastic and very wet.  Running 13.1 miles in the pouring rain was quite an experience but we crossed the finish line and had a great time.
A lot is happening in crafty blogland and I wanted to tell you about two challenges I'm sponsoring.  The first one is Card Crafters Circle's Autumn Colors Challenge.  You have until Friday to make a masterpiece with your fall color and enter your card for a chance to win 2 free digital stamps from OPC Studio.  Click their button to visit and enter.

The next challenge I'm sponsoring is Link Up For Pink.
This is an amazing challenge that is raising awareness for Breast Cancer.  I have sketched a special stamp for this challenge called Battle Gear.  I am donating 2012 profits from the sales of this stamp to the LUFP Relay for Life page.  If you would like to donate directly you can click the button below.
You can click LUFP's button to enter your pink creation and if you would like to purchase the Battle Gear stamp you can click on the watermark image below and it will take you to my Etsy shop.  Wonderful sponsors have joined together and are giving away an amazing amount of prizes and gifts.  Be sure to make your pink masterpiece and join the party!
Finally your freebie.  I am slowly sketching more digis and the shop is growing.  This is an older sketch of my crazy dachshunds Cyrano and Kona and it's now yours to craft with.  I hope you enjoy it.  Have a wonderful week.  Hugs and Happy Crafting! <3 -Kim
